The book appears to be written for the community members level, where anyone focused on assessing the community should be able to follow the steps in this book. On the other hand, I believe it should also be part of more experienced individuals also, as it contains the step by step process to . Community assessment: application to community/public health nursing practice. Assessment, the first step of the nursing process, forms the foundation for determining the client’s health, regardless of whether the client is an individual, a family, or a community. Nurses gather information by using their senses, as well as their cognition, past experiences, and specific tools.

Opportunities for community empowerment will also begin in the needs assessment stage. Consulting communities is a key method for understanding factors which affect their health and quality of life, and is a means of recognising the needs of disadvantaged groups which. Community health needs assessment is a process that: describes the state of health of local people; enables the identification of the major risk factors and causes of ill health; and enables the identification of the actions needed to address these. A community health needs assessment is not a one-off activity but a developmental process.

  Ultimately, the report must meet the needs of your group and core stakeholders. Communicating with the consultant throughout the process will ensure the final product meets your unique situation. There are many ways to present all the information gathered and analyzed for the community assessment. An effective assessment program will thus consider process, content and how data are interpreted and used. The assessment focuses on the capabilities of the community, including its citizens, agencies, and organizations. The community needs assessment process is an invaluable tool for involving the public in solving problems and developing goals.

People have a natural tendency to resist change due to the lack of adequate information or lack of involvement in the decision making process. This workbook helps community groups, social service organizations, and government agencies collect, analyze, prioritize, and present local data in a way that will ensure that a community's needs are understood and met.
